Seiko serves up mechanical first to former Wimbledon champion

Seiko has designed a mechanical watch for Novak Djokovic, just in time for Wimbledon.

Seiko has been in partnership with the three-time Wimbledon champ for a number of years, but the launch of the premier automatic skeleton marks the first time a piece has been automatic.

Following on from the success of the Kinetic Perpetual Premier watch that was designed last year for Djokovic to wear on formal occasions, the 2018 Premier creation is more suited to sportswear.

It incorporates an automatic calibre, housed in the classic Premier case with markers, dial and strap that have a sports feel.

There are two versions of this release. The first has a blue and black colour combination that accentuates the dynamism and sports character of the design; the second is in a rose gold tone that brings out the classicism of the premier style.

Both interpretations are offered with hybrid straps that combine the sports and formal aspects of the design.

The leather on the top surface gives the watch its classic feel while the silicone layer beneath ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist.

The movement is a new version of the 4R calibre, specially designed for a skeleton dial.

The Serb kicked off his 2018 Wimbledon campaign last night, he won in straight sets against American Tennys Sandgren.
