Second man jailed for Tarratt watch robbery

A second man has been jailed in connection with the September robbery at Tarratt Jewellers in Rugby during which watches worth more than £250,000 were stolen.

Darren Pallas, 33, of Cross Green Lanes in Leeds, pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to stealing Rolex and Cartier watches from Tarratt and was jailed for five years. His conviction follows that of Jordan Robert Elis Mitchell, 24, of Mary Street in Bradford, West Yorkshire, who was similarly given five years when he was convicted back in October.

The robbery took place at 11.30am on September 3, 2012, when Pallas and Mitchell, who were wearing balaclavas, smashed through the security door at Tarratt. The door is manned at all times by a security guard and has a buzzer entry system but the pair managed to break through after smashing at the doorframe.

The men escaped from the scene with 27 Rolex and 10 Chanel watches worth £258,850 at retail, according to a report in The Rugby Observer. Police managed to retrieve all but one of the watches.
