Rolex, Patek Philippe and IWC anchor Laings latest showroom in Southampton

Westquay Shopping Centre, a mid-market shopping centre in Southampton, has been given a taste of the high life with Laings opening a flagship boutique offering Patek Philippe, Rolex and IWC along with its prestigious fine jewellery.

The boutique is adjacent to John Lewis, an Apple Store and upmarket shoe shop Russell & Bromley.

The shop, which hosted an official opening last week, replaces the former high street Parkhouse store on Above Bar Street. The Parkhouse name was retired earlier this year by Laing the Jeweller before the business merged with Laings of Glasgow under the stewardship of CEO Joe Walsh.

Laings, as the nationwide group is now known, invested £1 million in the new Westquay showroom.

“This store opening is an exciting move for our company and follows the recent news that we have re-merged the Laing family businesses.  We are entering a new era with a national presence for Laings with seven luxury stores across the UK.  The Parkhouse name may have changed and our new management team on board but our values, exceptional brands and the highest levels of service all remain. We look forward to welcoming all of our lovely customers into our new showroom.

Patek Philippe and Rolex dominate the window frontage of the new Laings. Both have VIP service areas in the 2,820 square foot store, alongside an IWC shop-in-shop.

It is also home to Laings fine diamond and bespoke jewellery collections.

“Our new store looks incredible and we’re thrilled to finally open for our customers.  It’s an incredibly exciting time for Laings; we have a rich history steeped in experience yet dynamic and relevant. This move will enable us to deliver more of a unique, luxury retail experience to shoppers from within the Southampton area and further afield,” said Karla Ducker, general manager at the new Laings.

Further details have also emerged about the management team that will oversee the newly merged Laings group.

Michael Laing OBE sold Laing the Jeweller Ltd to Laing the Jeweller (Glasgow) Ltd, (Laings Glasgow) on September 1 this year. The new Laings company is run by Joe and Wendy Walsh. Wendy is the daughter of Stuart Laing and niece of Michael Laing, who have now both retired. She is the sixth generation of the family associated with the company.

The board of Laings comprises Joe and Wendy Walsh, Jonathan Payne as managing director,  Richard Laing as store director and Gillian Millar as stock director.

Along with the new Southampton store, Laings has three shops in Glasgow, two in Edinburgh and one in Cardiff.
