Robert Stewart to retail Alpina watches

Alpina watches will be available from jeweller Robert Stewart, the sister store of Laings of Glasgow, from July 2013.

The sports watch brand, which is distributed by Argento Fine Products in the UK and was founded by Gottlieb Hauser, will be stocked at the Glasgow store alongside watch brands including Bulova, Bering, Mondaine and Michael Kors.

Robert Stewart was originally established as a jeweller in Glasgow in 1835 and had the honour of being appointed goldsmith, silversmith and jeweller to Queen Victoria.

Laings of Glasgow purchased the business in 1989 and have re-launched the historic name back onto the jewellery scene.

A spokesperson for Laings of Glasgow said: "We have taken Alpina on in our Robert Stewart store. We have been talking to Argento for a year or so and think now is the right time for the launch. It is an impressive substantial Swiss watch for an extremely reasonable price, a story shared with Frederique Constant – from the same house – which we have been very successful with. The watches will sit well with the other Swiss watches within the store. We believe it will go from strength to strength as it becomes known in the market as Frederique Constant has."

This year Alpina celebrates its 130th anniversary.
