RJ-Romain Jerome erupts with volcano-inspired timepiece

RJ-Romain Jerome is launching its third collection and this time it’s turned to the Icelandic volcano with the unpronounceable name – Eyjafjallajökull-DNA – for inspiration.

The company hopes the ‘Eyjafjallajökull-DNA Burnt Lava’ watch will perform as well as its predecessors, which both sold out.

RJ-Romain Jerome is introducing a 99 limited edition, which reverts back to the original 46mm case in black-PVD coated steel featuring a Swiss Made mechanical self-winding movement.

The unit is enhanced with a structured bezel with a black PVD coating. The bezel is made of rusted and stabilized steel, a process mastered by the brand to give the timepiece a dramatic feel.

The dial, meanwhile, is designed to reflect the intensity of the erupting Volcano and the burning lava but also the great level of difficulty in the execution.

Placed on top of an onyx baseplate, the genuine lava rock has been hand-worked by an artisan to reproduce the rock cracking under the lava pressure, a typical phenomenon characteristic of Icelandic volcanos.

The dial features hand-painted ‘lava’ in red and yellow cold enamel while an exclusive toad strap has been selected to finish off the timepiece.
