Ralph Lauren SIHH 2014 release inspired by Bugatti

Ralph Lauren has released details of a new watch that it will debut at SIHH 2014, the Ralph Lauren Flying Tourbillon.

The new timepiece will fall within the brand’s Automotive collection and takes inspiration from the 1938 Type 57SC Bugatti Atlantic Coupe, a car owned by Ralph Lauren himself.

The watch features a flying tourbillon that is revealed through an aperture at 6 o’clock and supported only at the bottom of the cage, making it appear as though suspended.

In homage to the car’s dashboard, the watch has been crafted with an outer dial made from elm burlwood. The time is told on the matte black inner dial by two luminescent sword-shaped hands.

The watch has been fitted with an RL167 self-winding movement that is housed within a 45mm shot-blasted black stainless steel case. The calibre has been decorated with vertical Côtes de Genève and has an off-centre gold-plated micro-rotor, all of which can be viewed through the timepiece’s sapphire crystal caseback.
