Profit increases 20% at expanding Robert Gatward

Robert Gatward has reported sales rising by 11.6% in its latest financial year.

The jeweller, which has stores in Abingdon, Ipswich, Windsor, Thame and Reading, increased turnover from £8.54 million to £9.53 million in the financial year ending September 30, 2016.

Profit increased from £807,000 to £1 million.

Robert Gatward stores are tailored to local market conditions. It has Rolex shop in shops in Ipswich and Windsor, while other outlets offer Breitling, Omega, TAG Heuer and Tudor. The company also sells fashion brands such as Michael Kors and Henry London in store and online.

The Rolex showroom in Windsor is one of the largest outside of London. It was made possible by the 2013 acquisition of an existing business, Ruffs of Windsor, which had fallen into administration after trading from the town’s King Edward Court for 60 years.

More recently Keith Gill, co-owner of Robert Gatward, says that a growing number of Pandora franchise stores in Abingdon, Newmarket and Newbury has boosted turnover for the group.

Profit margins have been maintained, despite the increased number of stores, through disciplined management.
