Oris raises money for shark research with limited edition Aquis

Oris is raising money for marine conservationists working to save sharks from extinction.

The watchmaker has launched a special Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition that will raise money to help fight the threat to sharks, which some experts think could be lost from the world’s oceans within 40 years.

Funds from Oris are paying for mini satellite transmitters that track sharks for up to nine months. Data from the transmitters is used by scientists advising government agencies responsible for commercial fishing regulation.

Fishing is one of the greatest threats to sharks, which get caught up in trawler nets.

The Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition is based on the second-generation Aquis collection, also launching this year.

The new line has a slimmer silhouette than the 2011 Aquis, and is lighter.

The large, 45mm, steel watch has a uni-directional rotating bezel with a black ceramic inlay, and water resistance to 50 bar (500 metres).

It is limited to 2000 pieces and will sell for around £2000.
