Oris partners with independent movement maker

Oris has made the move over to independent movement maker Sellita as Swatch Group cuts back access to its ETA movements.

The brand had previously been using Swatch’s ETA movements but has now signed a partnership with Sellita, a Swiss company founded in 1950 that specialises in mechanical automatic movements.

Oris UK sales manager Paul Thurlow told WatchPro: “Swatch has now begun to restrict ETA unless you come into the group and we have no intention to do so. We have been preparing for this for five years so we’re ready for it.
“We are a fully independent company and we intend to stay so.”

Separately, Oris has made a move into social networking with the brand setting up a Facebook profile in the past few weeks. Thurlow said that the reaction from fans of the brand has been overwhelming with the brand receiving more than 10,000 Likes in the first month of the profile going live.
