Louis Vuitton has joined LVMH stablemate TAG Heuer in launching a smartwatch for well-heeled customers.
With a price tag of $2450 (£1900), the Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon is more expensive than the £1200 TAG Heuer Connected and the recently launched Montblanc Summit smartwatch that is already on sale directly from the brand’s website £795.
Even the Apple Watch Hermès Series 2 is cheaper at £1149-£1459.
The Louis Vuitton Tambour first launched 15 years ago in men’s and women’s versions. Fine jewellery timepieces sell for as much as £40,000 from the maison’s own boutiques.
The 42mm circular-cased Tambour Horizon, created in partnership with Google and Qualcomm Technology is a full touchscreen timepiece.
It offers the usual functions of message alerts and activity tracking, although it does not have a heart rate monitor. It will connect to Android or IOS phones, and to a WiFi network.
The battery will last just a day between charges.
