Watch brand REC’s new release is the reincarnation of a championship winning drift car.
The P-51 RTR collection is built from Vaughn Gittin Jr’s latest championship car, the Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5-D.
The watch features a recycled carbon fibre dial with evident wear and tear, a visually unique forged carbon and aluminium bezel with a variety of design references.
Vaughn Gittin Jr is one of the most successful drifters on the planet. He has won three world drifting championship titles and was awarded the ‘Ace Driver of the Decade’ title in 2013 when he won more tandem battle victories than any other driver in Formula Drift.
The world champion was proud to be approached about the possibility of being involved in the making of a watch.
He said: “It was an honour when the arts and craftsmen at REC watches came to myself and RGR, and wanted to make a limited edition watch from our RTR Mustang.”
Discussing his favourite feature of the watch, he said: “It’s hard but if I had to, it’s the carbon fibre and the forged together carbon and aluminium. For me, looking at that and knowing that a piece of my race car is on my watch, there’s nothing cooler than that.”
This watch is limited to 350 pieces.
