New moon rising for Christopher Ward

Christopher Ward has created its first ever moonphase watch with a distinctly different take on the astrological complication.

The 40mm C9 Moonphase features an enlarged, centrally mounted astronomical moonphase disc. The JJ04 calibre, based on an ETA 2836-2 base movement modified by the brand’s master watchmaker Johannes Jahnke, remains accurate for 128 years.

The moonphase disc features a stamped three-dimensional representation of the moon with a semi-matte finish while the portion of the dial surrounding the disc is decorated with a wave guilloche pattern which reflects the moon’s effect on the tides.

Offered in white and gold and midnight blue and silver versions, the watch will get its first public outing when the brand exhibits at SalonQP in November. It will be available to purchase during the luxury watch show.

Mike France, co-founder of the brand, said: “We enjoy a unique quality of relationship with fans of the brand across the world, particularly in the CW Forum, and a moonphase model has been probably their most vociferous and consistent call. Of course, we could have responded by rushing out a moonphase model but we have taken the time – over three years – to ensure that we got it absolutely right.”

The C9 Moonphase is now available to preorder for delivery in November priced at £1,295 on leather strap, £1,357.50 on alligator strap and £1,395 on a steel bracelet.
