New dept director for Sothebys Euro watch division

Thomas Perazzi has been appointed deputy director of the European Watch Department at Sotheby’s.

Perazzi has joined Sotheby’s from another auction house where he was a horology specialist. He has been working in the watch trade since 2006 and has developed a strong knowledge of Omega and Rolex timepieces as well as other vintage wristwatches designed between 1940 and 1970.

Sotheby’s said that the appointment of Perazzi will “strengthen Sotheby’s existing team in Europe with his solid expertise and strong relations to Italy, a key centre in the watch”.

Sotheby’s has also had a shake-up of its Asian watch department with Charles Tearle taking over the role of head of watches in Asia and Vanessa Herrera taking on an expanded role at the auction house becoming business manager for watches.

Tearle will work for the group in Hong Kong, closely liasing with Sotheby’s worldwide head of watches Tim Bourne. Tearle has played significant roles in major auction houses, founding and leading watch and clock departments in the United Kingdom, the United States as well as heading the Asian division of an auction house specialising in horology.

Herrera is moving on from her previous position of head of watches in Asia to take on the expanded role of business manager for watches. She will continue to work closely with Bourne and Terale to develop Sotheby’s watch business in Asia.
