Mühle-Glashütte is the only German manufacturer that has entered this year’s Concours International de Chronométrie international, chronometer competition.
The competition this year welcomes a total of 38 time-measuring instruments, entered by companies and schools. The selection of pieces includes seven watches with tourbillons and 12 entries in the category of Ecoles – Classique (Schools – Classic).
Mühle-Glashütte has entered what is considered to be the most competitive category, called Entreprises – Classique (Companies – Classic). The Mühle-Glashütte chronometer is up against 17 other entrants.
The watch houses a hand-wound movement produced by the Mühle watchmakers. The main highlight of the movement is its screw-in chatons, which enable the use of special jewels.
A second highlight is its escape wheel, which features two jewel hole/cap jewel combinations for particularly low-friction support. The movement also boasts a newly designed regressive long-slot click, which enables the ratchet wheel to turn back two to three teeth when fully wound. In doing so, the Mühle click prevents the winder springs from being over-tensioned and not only enables a more consistent transfer of power to the watch movement, but also achieves improved accuracy.
The Mühle-Glashütte’s shockproof woodpecker neck regulation also aids movement reliability, which is particularly important for the chronometer tests, in which the watches are not only exposed to a magnetic field, but are also subjected to 150 blows with a strength of 150g.
