Movado smartwatch teaser

Movado Group brands bet on Android Wear 2.0 as the future of smartwatches

Movado will unveil its first smartwatch at Baselworld.

Images of the Movado Connect have not yet been released, but WatchPro has learned that the company has been working with Google to be among the first watch brands to create a device based on the new Android Wear 2.0 platform.

Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss, also within the Movado Group portfolio, are partnering with Google with collections launching in autumn.

Retailers will see the Movado smartwatch at the end of March, and it will be ready to go on sale after summer in a collection of five men’s styles with a starting price of $495 (£495).

“The launch of Movado Connect marks another new milestone in Movado’s longstanding history of creativity and innovation in watch design,” says Efraim Grinberg, chairman & CEO, Movado Group.

“We are very proud of our collaboration with Google and for the opportunity to provide our customers with an incredibly designed timepiece, powered by the latest, cutting-edge technology platform. Movado Connect, with our proprietary edge-to-edge crystal design, is iconically Movado.”

Movado Connect will have five customisable dials designed and inspired by Movado’s Museum dial featuring different complications, backgrounds, and watch hands.

Android Wear 2.0 will give people access to thousands of apps including Android Pay and Google Assistant for performing tasks and getting answers, directions, and timely reminders.

“We are thrilled to partner with Movado, a long-time leader and one of the most iconic brands in the watch industry,” said David Singleton, vice president of android engineering at Google. “With our combined expertise in watchmaking, design and software, we are able to create a beautiful yet functional timepiece that helps people live their everyday lives.”
