Michel Herbelin marks 70th anniversary with Inspiration 1947 launch

French watchmaker Michel Herbelin has created a limited edition manually wound watch named Inspiration 1947 to celebrate 70 years since the company’s creation.

There will be 500 pieces made of the watch, which has a vintage post-war aesthetic inspired by the watches made in Charquemont, Eastern France in its first few years.

The 40mm watch has a domed sunburst dial set in a gold-plated steel case. Hour and date hands are made in dagger shapes picking out gilded applique hour-markers with a date at 3 o’clock.

The watch uses a manually wound mechanical Sellita movement.

It will sell in the UK for £1245.

“Founded in Charquemont in the Haut-Doubs region, French watchmaking atelier
Michel Herbelin has been designing timepieces that highlight French watchmaking expertise for 70 years. The family-run business takes pride in producing quality watches of refined design, and making them widely accessible through its reasonable price range. In keeping with this philosophy laid down in 1947, the Michel Herbelin anniversary watch was conceived, designed, assembled, calibrated and inspected within our maison in the Jura, the company says.
