Maurice Lacroix awarded Red Dot design prizes

Swiss watch brand Maurice Lacroix has been awarded two prizes in the 2012 Red Dot Awards, in the watches and jewellery category.

Two of the brand’s Masterpiece models, its Roue Carrée Seconde and Double Rétrograde, were awarded the Red Dot winner 2012 seal of quality for excellence in design, by a jury of design experts from around the world.

Maurice Lacroix’s Roue Carrée Seconde was the first movement in the history of watchmaking to have square wheels and won an award for the Masterpiece Régulateur Roue Carrée in 2011.

The updated model features the seconds displayed by a square wheel that is turned by a cloverleaf-shaped wheel.

Its Masterpiece Double Rétrograde winning model is described as a combination of the “traditional art of watchmaking with a modern design”, and is driven by an automatic movement from of own manufacture.

The Red Dot Design Awards has origins dating back to the 1950s. In 2011 alone, more 14,000 entries from more than 70 countries were received. The red dot award has established itself as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for excellence in design.

Its past watch brand winners include Skagen, Nomos Glashutte, TAG Heuer, Rado and MeisterSinger.
