Japanese artist and writer Yayoi Kusama loves her spots, and we mean she loves them.
In the past she has covered London’s South Bank with polka dot fabric and decorated an Audi in big red spots, and earlier this year the Tate showcased a retrospective of her work just as Louis Vuitton unveiled her collaboration with Marc Jacobs for the brand and installed mannequins of her in its windows. 2012 has become Kusama’s year in many ways, despite her being in her mid 80s.
As part of her design work for Louis Vuitton Kusama created this dotty, toadstool-like Tambour. Its Kusamesque makeover includes a red and white lacquered dial, 10 diamond indexes and a patent red and white polka dot strap.
Kusama’s signature is the final flourish to this eye-scrambling limited-edition and numbered collection, and we’re dotty about it.
