Loomes auctions unique British timepiece that has been to the summit of Everest and back

British watchmaker Loomes is raising money for the Mountain Trust charity by auctioning a one-off wristwatch that made it to to the summit of Mount Everest and back earlier this year.

The auction, run by Bonhams, opened this week and runs until November 7.

The watch comes with a long history and pedigree. The base movement is an entirely British-made NOS Smiths hand-wound 18000vph Cal01 designed in the 1950s.

The movement was stripped and fitted with a new mainspring and re-lubricated in Loomes’ Northampton workshop before being intalled in a hand-polished case with a Loomes-made dial printed for the Mountain Trust

The watch was worn by Sgt Milan Rai, who summited on the 16th May 2017.
