Longines classic 1930s pilot watch flies again

Longines has used the design of a 1930s pilot’s chronograph in a classic aviator’s timepiece for 2017.

First seen at Baselworld in March, the Avigation BigEye reaches retailers this month.

The watch will become part of Longine’s Heritage collection of modern interpretations of models dating back across the company’s 185 year history.

The Avigation BigEye’s design was common for pilot watches with its easily readable dial with a focus on the minute counter. Large push buttons enable the wearer to use them while wearing gloves.

The 41mm diameter steel case of the 2017 model houses a L688 column wheel chronograph movement produced for Longines.

Its semi-glossy black dial is decorated with Arabic numerals coated with SuperLuminova, and displays a small second hand at 9 o’clock as well as a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. An oversized 30-minute counter is placed at 3 o’clock.

The watch has a domed crystal lens and a vintage-style brown leather watch strap.
