Lange & Söhne to spotlight fine craftsmanship at special SalonQP exhibition

A. Lange & Söhne is to showcase its watchmaking craftsmanship at this week’s SalonQP’s special exhibition, entitled the Metiers d’Art.

The Metiers d’Art presents the story of the arts and crafts used to decorate some of the world’s finest watches. The exhibition will present the vast range of rare skills in the watch industry, such as hand engraving, enamelling, guilloché engraving, marquetry, mosaicsetting, diamond cutting, miniature painting and gem setting, with many being demonstrated on site.

The brand, which specialises in hand-engraved balance cocks has been praised by the exhibition’s curator, Elizabeth Doerr, for each of its engraved pieces being wholly unique. She said that each artisan practising their skill has an individual style that can be told apart, allowing the owner of each piece to identify the craftsperson who engraved the watch.

Anne Schaal, UK brand manager for A. Lange & Söhne, said: “I am very excited to have the unique opportunity to showcase an important aspect of the craftsmanship that goes into our A. Lange & Söhne watches at SalonQP this November.

“One of our engravers will be present to demonstrate how our balance cocks are embellished with a traditional floral pattern. The handwriting of each engraver makes our timepieces unique. Lange & Söhne customers are invited to bring their watch along and discover who ‘signed’ it.”
