Kate Doherty to leave WatchPro

Kate Doherty will be leaving WatchPro magazine to pursue a career as a freelance journalist.

Doherty has been the editor of WatchPro since April, when she joined publisher ITP Promedia from trade magazine Retail Jeweller. Today will be her last day at the magazine.

Since her appointment, Doherty has been instrumental in the launch of two new WatchPro projects, the inaugural WatchPro Hot 100 in association with The Company of Master Jewellers and the debut London Watch Show. She also ran WatchPro‘s annual project Watches of the Year, which was published in November.

Doherty said: "I cannot express how much I have enjoyed being part of the thriving UK watch industry in 2013 and reporting on your every move, product launches and emerging trends. Being editor at WatchPro has been an honour, not to mention extremely inspiring.

"While I have very much enjoyed my time editing the magazine and WatchPro.com I am now excited at the prospect of embracing freelance work and new opportunities. Fortunately this is not a farewell to the watch and jewellery industry because I will still be writing content for WatchPro on a freelance basis and will continue to be part of this vibrant industry."

ITP Promedia is currently searching for a replacement editor for WatchPro and until such time as a candidate is hired, WatchPro editor-in-chief Rachael Taylor will take over the day-to-day running of the magazine.

Taylor said: "We are of course very sad to see Kate go but we fully support her decision and wish her the best for her new life and career. Kate has been a pleasure to work with and, in a short time, has become a much-cherished member of the team.

"She has also firmly established herself at the heart of the UK watch industry and has done at fantastic job at WatchPro, helping to raise and strengthen the profile of the magazine, and I’m sure many of you will join us in wishing her well. "

Doherty will continue to work with WatchPro on a freelance basis while taking other commissions. She can be contacted at kate_edoherty@outlook.com.
