Jaquet Droz reveals Only Watch butterfly watch

Jaquet Droz has presented The Loving Butterfly for the Only Watch Charity auction, 2013.

The Swiss watchmaker’s The Loving Butterfly harks back to the Enlightenment period, when architecture and botany were areas of high interest.

This artistic offering features a cherub riding in a carriage pulled by a butterfly – a historical design drawn by one of the legendary automata, produced by Pierre Jaquet Droz in the 18th century. The butterfly signifies the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods and the butterfly symbolises beauty and freedom. In the background, the Palace of Monaco has been painted. The watch has a 43mm diameter yellow gold case and an exposed oscillating weight.

This year marks the fifth edition of the Only Watch charity auction, which is scheduled for September 28 in Monaco. The auction is organised by the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystophy.

The auction will see approximately 40 watch brands contribute a unique piece and all the profits will fund research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
