International Luxury Group & Inter City Group toast towering success at Basel

Bar Rouge on the 31st floor of the Basel Ramada Hotel was buzzing with watch industry executives at the end of March thanks to an invitation-only gathering hosted by International Luxury Group & Inter City Group.

The partner event was an opportunity to showcase the group’s watch brand portfolio, which includes Police, Superdry, Roamer, Aigner, Cerruti, Cath Kidston, Ben Sherman, Swiss Military Hanowa, Daisy Dixon, Ted Baker, Kenneth Cole, French Connection, Karen Millen, Gant and Timberland.

Just as important was the opportunity for distributors and retailers from the group’s global network to relax and enjoy hospitality and sensational views over the River Rhine and the city of Basel.

Naresh Chainani, board member at ILG, stated: “We wanted this to be more than just another exhibition with a stand and tired colleagues trying to do business with ever-more tired distributors and retailers. Our event was first and foremost an opportunity for us to show our appreciation to our partners and this naturally led to our most successfully commercial event for both partner and supplier; with record numbers visiting us and record orders for the group and for distributors from their invited customers… This reaffirms my belief that our partners are at the heart of everything that we do as a company and as long as we maintain this way of working our position as the premier supplier of watches in the world will never be diminished.”

Exhausted watch executives were treated to a massage while looking down on basel from the 31st floor.

Mohamed Ali Master, group commercial director at ICG, added: “For us, it was the best event that we have ever been involved in. The simple measure of success is the amount of time our distributors and retailers spent with us and how many times they returned to the event and were absolutely delighted at what we were offering. Whilst the event itself ran like a hand-made timepiece, it was all due to the hard work and dedication of our greatest asset, our team. Each member worked tirelessly to not only make the show a delight for our partners – but everyone working within the group loved being part of the best event in Basel last week – and that is the icing on the cake of success that we served up.”

This year’s success has already led to ILG and ICG starting to plan how they will improve on the event in 2018.

“This year we raised the bar so high that at points we were nervous about accomplishing our own goals for this event. Next year, while our competitors will, undoubtedly, try and copy our 2016 event. We have something even better in mind that will change the game and allow us to further tower over all again,” said Mr Master.
