IN PICS: Seiko opens first boutique in Australia

Seiko has opened its first boutique in Australia within a landmark luxury retail building in Sydney.

The lower ground floor space in the Queen Victoria Building was opened earlier this month with a celebratory event at the nearby Swissotel Sydney.

Hirohiko Umemoto, Seiko’s chief operating officer, hosted proceedings and guests including Seiko’s business partners, the press and watch collectors. They were joined on the evening by Masato Takaoka, the Consul-General from the New South Wales consulate of Japan.

Together they cut a Queen Victoria Building shaped cake to celebrate the opening.

The Sydney boutique is the latest from the Japanese watch brand, as it seeks to spread its watchmaking message around the world. Interestingly Seiko will not only offer its Grand Seiko and Astron collections at the Sydney store, but also its Credor haute horlogerie brand, which Seiko is slowly introducing internationally through its growing network of boutiques.

Last year Seiko opened boutiques in Frankfurt, Moscow and Toyko. The brand states that more boutiques are planned for 2016, which may well refer to the long-awaited London location that Seiko boss Shinji Hattori spoke exclusively to WatchPro about last year.
