IN PICS: Omega launches Deep Black collection in New York

Omega launched a quartet of black ceramic Planet Ocean watches on Monday night in New York.

Following the trend for watches with black cases, which has already seen Tudor release its Heritage Black Bay Dark and TAG Heuer produce the Monza Chronograph reissue this year, Omega introduced its Deep Black capsule collection.

Set within the Seamaster Planet Ocean collection, the 600m water resistant Deep Black features four ceramic GMT divers watches, which achieve Omega’s Master Chronometer status.

Omega president and chief executive officer, Raynald Aeschlimann said: “Omega’s pioneering spirit goes back over a century and expands from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the moon. The Deep Black Collection takes everything we’ve learned and developed over the years and combines these advancements into a truly striking collection of timepieces. It is a momentous occasion for Omega to be here in New York and to share these watches for the first time.”

Each 45.5 mmm Deep Black watch has been crafted from a single block of ceramic. This same material is used for the dials, which feature a new GMT ring. The hands and indexes of the watches are created from 18K Sedna gold or 18K white gold and are coated in white Super-LumiNova that emits green and blue colours.

Colourful rubber bezel inserts have been used to create the red and blue models while the rubber straps have been created using a surface pattern which gives the appearance of fabric, another trend observed at Baselworld this year.
