Hublot to launch watch for Alinghi sail team

Oversized watch brand Hublot has created a watch for sailing syndicate Alinghi, set to be unveiled during racing in Geneva next month.

Hublot’s chairman Jean-Claude Biver and Alinghi’s founder Ernesto Bertarelli will launch the watch together after the regatta races at the Société Nautique de Genève meet on May 4.

The partnership is said to be a “story of friendship… about mutual loyalty based on the shared passion for the sea and sailing, love of sport, the quest for performance and for cutting-edge technological innovation both in terms of materials and original technical developments”.

Hublot has previously sponsored Alinghi during the 2009 and 2010 in the America’s Cup, and has now renewed its partnership with the Swiss team during its international challenges.

The Hublot and Alinghi watch will be limited to just 100 numbered pieces made in carbon, similar to the materials used in boat manufacture.

Bertarelli said: "It is a great pleasure to welcome Hublot back on board Alinghi, and an honour to have it as a partner given its track record supporting the world’s biggest sporting events, from FIFA to Formula 1 to mention but a few.”

Biver said that the brand is both promoting and supporting Swiss values and technology through its support of Alinghi.

Hublot has previously partnered with the Yacht Club Monaco, the Monaco Oceanographic Museum and its Institute and the Real Club Nautico de Palma with the Copa Del Rey.

Hublot said supporting Alinghi was “a clear choice”.
