Dustin Johnson, the current world number one golfer, joined Hublot in Shanghai this week to help launch the Big Bang Unico Golf.
The timepiece has a specially modified movement, the MHUB1580, which lets golfers keep track of their score throughout an 18-hole round.
It is also engineered to be worn while playing thanks to its lightweight construction in Texalium, a material developed by Hublot from carbon fiber and aluminium.
“The Big Bang Unico Golf has a contemporary design and is easy to use. It has digital displays and is very light – less than 100 grams on the wrist. It has everything that I want from a golf watch and is the perfect fit,” says Mr Johnson, a brand ambassador for Hublot.
Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, says that the watch brings the luxury of mechanical Swiss watchmaking to the world of golf. “Golf watches exist, but they tend to be digital,” he says. The new watch is mechanically advanced, brilliantly functional, contemporary and easy to use.
“It is a fusion of Hublot’s philiosophy and DJ’s signature; simple, intuitive and extremely effective,” Mr Guadalupe describes.
The 45mm Big Bang Unico Golf has a putter-shaped pusher at 2 o-clock activates the mechanism for displaying the number of strokes taken and counts the strokes per hole. The pusher at 4 o’clock allows the wearer to move on to the next hole by resetting the stroke counter to zero.
A counter at 6 o’clock displays the total number of strokes played and is simultaneously updated. The pusher at 8 o’clock, shaped like a tee, resets the mechanism and sets the counters to zero at the end of the round.
