Hublot and Chelsea bring British swagger to Hollywood

Hublot has hosted the Chelsea team in Los Angeles to unveil the Classic Fusion Chronograph Chelsea Football Club watch during their pre-season tour of the US.

Following the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, in which Hublot served as the Official Watch, the company said its partnership with Chelsea marked yet another extension of its deeply invested interest in global football and ongoing support of the Hublot Loves Football campaign.

The event took place at the Sony Pictures Studios, an iconic Hollywood space, as Hublot formally announced the launch of the official club timepiece.

The full squad attended the event alongside the team’s new head coach, Antonio Conte. The night brought numerous British elements to Hollywood – in addition to the team itself – including iconic red phone booths and black taxicabs, mini fish & chips with honey vinegar, artisanal ice cream in clever British flavors, posh London ladies in fascinators serving Moet & Chandon “Minis”, Belvedere martinis in “Chelsea” blue, and interactive photo opportunities with London icons and Chelsea’s famous Stamford Bridge stadium.

The team itself kicked off the event arriving in a customised blue London double-decker bus before greeting Angeleno fans and media. Notable attendees included Jeremy Piven, Nigel Lythgoe, and Dontaye Draper.

For an only in Hollywood twist, however, the team honoured their visit by leaving their footprints – and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’ handprints – in a cement cast (ala Hollywood Walk of Fame) which will be sent to the Chelsea FC museum in London.

Jean-François Sberro, managing director of Hublot America, said: “The new timepiece perfectly encapsulates the quality, tradition and pursuit of excellence that flows through both of our organisations. We look forward to continuing our fruitful partnership as it has been a source of great excitement to see these two great names come together.”

The Classic Fusion Chronograph Chelsea FC watch, which was unveiled on the occassion, features a 45mm titanium case with a sapphire anti-reflective treatment and the Chelsea FC lion logo situated at 12’o clock and also printed on the case-back glass so that the Chelsea lion is truly close to the heart of the wearer as it literally touches the pulse.

Inspired by the iconic team colours, embellishments of blue are visible throughout the sunray satin-finished dial and straps. The timepiece is powered by HUB1143, an in-house automatic chronograph movement that provides the watch with twin counters at 3 and 9 o’clock, a date window at 6 o’clock and a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is limited to 200 pieces and available for purchase globally at Hublot boutiques.
