HOT 100 2014: Louisa McCarthy, Neville McCarthy

The world of communications and public relations was rather different back in 1962 when Caroline Neville, mother of Louisa, established what has become the family firm.

It’s tempting to conjure up the glamorous world of Mad Men, set in 1960s Manhattan, as an image. But life in Bermondsey Street, South London, was more grimy back in the pre-swinging sixties.
Over 50 years on Louisa, and her brother Dominic, who took over from Caroline 14 years ago, have overseen an evolution of the agency’s client list into the upper echelons of luxury watches.

“Over the years we have looked after numerous watch brands including Cartier, Hublot, Baume & Mercier, Dunhill, TW Steel, to name a few, and currently we look after Oris, Bulova and just launched the fashion line, Caravelle New York,” Louisa says.
These watch brands sit within a stable that also includes beauty, travel, lifestyle, drinks and property clients. “I believe it is beneficial for all clients that we have a diverse portfolio of brands and aren’t just focused on one or two areas. There is a lot of cross-pollination of ideas when a brand works with an agency with our range of clients,” Louisa suggests.

Keeping the family business growing is a 24/7 job, Louisa admits, but she does still find time to enjoy her other great passion: the theatre. “Prior to joining the family business I worked in the theatre as an actress, appearing in the West End and across the country for over a decade. Since ‘retiring’ from the stage, I make an effort to head to the theatre at least once every week or so when my schedule allows,” she says.
