HIGHLY COMMENDED: Sports Watches of the Year, Tudor Pelagos

Baselworld 2015 was a milestone event for Tudor, the year the brand forever in the shadow of its older sibling, Rolex, became a manufacture in its own right.

One of the two watches to host a manufacture movement was the Pelagos divers watch, a titanium timepiece of impeccable credentials that lifts heavily from Tudor’s archives without ever wandering into parody territory.

The movement at the heart of the watch is the Tudor MT5612, a COSC-certified 28,800 beat bi-directional automatic with 70 power reserve and instantaneous date change, viewed through an aperture at the three o’clock.

The movement’s silicon balance is held in place by a symmetrical bridge for improved shock resistance whilst unwelcome helium is catered for by a helium release valve. Add to that the coveted ‘snowflake’ hour hand, water resistance to 500 metres and a patented auto-adjustable diver’s deployment clasp and you have perhaps the best value tool watch of the year.
