Police have seized a sizeable haul of counterfeit watches destined for the US market in a swoop on the border between Mexico and Texas, said to have a commercial value of $28 million (£18m).
The shipment of counterfeit Swiss watches included fake Audemars Piguet timepieces and Louis Arden watches.
A statement from US Customer and Border Protection released last week said that the watches were discovered on June 29.
A total of 38 boxes of watches were seized, dubbed “one of the highest valued in terms of the manufacturers’ suggested retail price” in the history of the border area at World Trade Bridge between Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
