Independence day 2

Hamilton to tackle alien invasion on the silver screen

Hamilton watches will reprise its role in one of the year’s biggest blockbusters when the sequel to smash-hit sci-fi flick Independence Day hits screens this summer.

Hamilton starred on the wrist of several characters in the 1996 original and will do so again when Independence Day: Resurgence, starring Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Liam Hemsworth, hits cinema screens in June, 20 years after the original.

But Hamilton is no stranger to Hollywood having recently appeared in The Martian and Interstellar as well as the Men in Black Trilogy and Die Hard 4.0.

But the American watch brand’s on-screen career began 65 years ago in 1951 before product placement was a regular occurrence.

In what might have been the first on-screen appearance of a watch brand, Hamilton graced the wrists of Richard Widmark in The Frogmen before Elvis wore a Ventura, a watch he owned himself, in Blue Hawaii in 1961.

Hamilton has since gone on to appear in more than 450 films around the world including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Pearl Harbour, I Am Legend and A Beautiful Mind.
