Google will compete with its smartwatch partners with creation of Pixel Watch

Google is planning to unveil its own Pixel smartwatch in the second half of the year, according to tech industry insiders.

The move would place Google in direct competition with partners including Fossil Group (pictured top), Guess, Gc, Movado and even TAG Heuer and Hublot, which all make connected timepieces using the Android Wear platform from the Silicon Valley giant.

Evan Blass, a respected US-based mobile tech blogger, says Google will launch the Pixel smartwatch and a new generation of Pixel Bud earphones at its Autumn hardware conference this year.

The blog follows a report in May by German tech site WinFuture.de that there are three Pixel watches being designed code-named Ling, Triton, and Sardine.

That suggests a collection of watches that might be different sizes, or have varying functionality such as mobile data connectivity. Or it may be specific styles of watches for different uses such as sport, swimming, cycling or everyday wear.
