Glasgow-based Instrmnt signs Japanese distribution deal

Glasgow design studio Instrmnt continues to expand across international markets and has now appointed a Japanese distributor.

The brand, launched by designers Ross Baynham and Pete Sunderland through Dezeen Watch Store in 2014, has signed a deal with Northern Sky, a leading distributor of imported brands.

Instrmnt’s watches are now available in 15 stores across Japan including Tomorowland and United Arrow’s Steven Alan concession.

Baynham said: “We identified Japan as a key market for Instrmnt pretty soon after the brand launch so it’s exciting to now be working with someone like Northern Sky to further our reach. They are one of the foremost quality distributors in the country with huge experience, and are allowing us the opportunity to work with a range of retailers whom we otherwise wouldn’t be able to properly support.”

After a period of exclusivity at Dezeen, Instrmnt expanded its retail reach last year, announcing stockists in the UK, USA and France.
