Germany’s Eza Watches roars back into life under Dutch management.

Eza Watches has introduced a classically designed pilot watch to go with the dive watch it launched last year.

The Eza AirFighter, which houses a Swiss automatic caliber 2824-2 movement, is inspired by classic pilot watches used during WWII.

It has modern touches like an engraved logo and model name on the inside of the sapphire glass and sunken dial to create more depth.

The AirFighter is Eza’s second watch since its resurrection in 2016.

The brand started life in 1921 in Pforzheim, Germany, and was resurrected by two Dutch entrepreneurs: Adriaan Trampe and Diederik van Golen, who use historic models as inspiration for vintage-looking pieces with modern manufacturing standards.

The company now assembles finished watches in the Netherlands.

“We are extremely proud with the end result of the AirFighter. We wanted to preserve the design from the earlier pilot watches, but still add a few subtle details to amuse the eye when you zoom in,” says Mr Trampe.

“Different characteristics of classic pilot watches come together in the design. We wanted to keep the dial clear, readable and highlight the beautiful blued hands. For the logo we wanted a real subtle solution because a lot of military issued pilot watches came without a logo on the dial,” adds Mr van Golen.

“With the AirFighter we want to stay true to the pilot watch specs from back in the days. This means; readability, no logo on the dial, luminous hands and indexes, a hacking function and adjusted at six positions for better accuracy”.

The AirFighter is available via the Eza website for €725.
