Gc watches sponsors Wildlife Artist of the Year

Wildlife artists gathered in London this week to discover the winners of this year’s Wildlife Artist of the Year competition, sponsored by Gc watches.

The prize-giving exhibition was held at the Mall Galleries, close to Buckingham Palace, with the winners of seven categories being announced.

The winner of the Young & Wild category, also sponsored by the watch brand, was won by Southampton artist Liara K Crane. Her watercolour Shirokuma depicting a polar bear was a unanimous favourite with the judging panel that was chaired by wildlife photographer and conservationist, Mark Carwardine.

Crane commented: “I was so amazed to win. The competition was very tough and it was a real privilege to share the gallery with so many wonderful artists and sculptors,”

The Wildlife Artist of the Year competition is run by conservation project, the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
Crane received a £500 prize from wildlife artist and conservationist David Shepherd CBE, Penelope Trechot of Gc Timepieces and Foundation supporter, actress Pam St Clement.

Also featuring as a Guest Artist at this year’s event was Stella Mays, one of Gc’s UK Rising Stars.
