Fossil founder Tom Kartosis invests in creation of Tom Ford watch brand

Bedrock Manufacturing Co., the parent company of Shinola, has signed an agreement with Tom Ford International that will see the global fashion house design, manufacture and distribute watch collections under its own brand name.

Bedrock is owned by Tom Kartsotis, who founded Fossil in 1984 and served in as its chairman up until 2010.

The Los Angeles Times says that Tom Ford watches will be made in Switzerland, but provides no further details.

No launch date for the business has been disclosed.

“Watches have long been an obsession of mine and I have been waiting for the perfect moment in our brand development to introduce this category and have also waited for the perfect partner,” said Mr Ford. “We have found that in Tom Kartsotis and Bedrock Manufacturing Co.,” he added.

The investment by Mr Kartosis’s Bedrock company suggests Tom Ford watches will be more affordable than the brand’s fashion lines, where a simple polo shirt can cost several hundred pounds.

“We have a deep appreciation for the craft, detail, quality and of course taste, that Tom Ford stands for,” said Mr Kartsotis. “These values are relevant now more than ever. We are [pleased] about this collaboration and look forward to helping Tom express his vision.”
