Flying Squad foil raid on Parmigiani boutique

Undercover Flying Squad detectives foiled an attempted smash and grab raid on Parmigiani Fleurier’s Mayfair boutique in London.

Four men speed up to the Mount Street boutique on two scooters shortly before 11am this morning and the passengers began to attack the front of the store, breaking glass with sledgehammers.

Before they could enter the shop waiting police officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad intervened and arrested one man at the scene and the remaining three nearby.

Three of the arrested males, one aged 16 and two aged 18, were taken to central London police stations while the fourth, aged 17, was taken to a London hospital to receive treatment for a minor injury to the hand. Police described the sting as ‘a fast time intelligence-led operation’.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Johnson, Flying Squad, said: “This morning’s arrests are another successful operation by the Met’s Flying Squad who are committed to tackling smash and grab robberies. This type of offence is not a victimless crime and we will continue to pursue relentlessly those who persist in committing robbery. I hope that this morning’s operation and recent arrests and convictions the Flying Squad have secured send a strong message of deterrent to would-be-robbers, that they will be identified and brought to justice."
