Five of the best sub-£500 fashionable hybrid smartwatches: Citizen Proximity

Citizen’s Proximity, unlike other hybrids that use mini screens on their watch faces, alerts the wearer to any notifications by moving the watch hands and vibrating.

This means it looks almost identical to a regular Eco Drive, and performs all the regular  functions of a perpetual calendar chronograph with second time zone, 12/24 hour time, power reserve and sporty leather strap with a nylon backing.

Its Bluetooth 4.0 connection with an iPhone means it will receive alerts for incoming calls, emails, messages, and reminders.

The notifications are seen by the watch hands moving and by the watch vibrating. The hands return to their original place once a button on the side of the 46mm case is pressed.

The timepiece is not on sale in the UK yet, but is expected to launch ahead of Christmas. US price is $525.
