TAG Heuer will revive its Autavia family in 2017, with the finished collection due to be seen for the first time at Baselworld.

The Autavia was first launched in 1962 by Jack Heuer as a watch that would appeal to both the automobile and aviation enthusiasts – hence the name that alludes to both.

The chronograph, with its clear, dashboard-like design made it a popular drivers’ watch at the time.

The 2017 collection harks back to the motor racing spirit of this era and the world of timekeeping, and maintains the original’s simple yet effective lines.

It is being bought back to life after TAG enthusiasts were asked last year to name their favourite historic model from a shortlist of 16. The online vote was won by the Autavia.

The 2017 Autavia is am Heuer 02 automatic manufacture chronograph with three white chronograph counters and a date aperture on an opaline dial.

The 1962 watch used a 39mm case, but this has grown to 42mm to suit modern tastes.
