Fears watches marks first birthday with three models for SalonQP

Historic British watchmaker Fears was brought back to life for the first time in decades at SalonQP last year with the launch of its first timepiece since managing director Nicholas Bowman-Scargill took it over.

This year it will mark a year in business with the release of three new watches including additions to the Redcliff range of Swiss made quartz watches and an all hand-built mechanical watch, the Brunswick.

Redcliff Date and Redcliff Continental join the quartz family, the former with a new ‘passport’ red dial colour, the latter a dual time zone GMT.

The Brunswick is the first mechanical watch from Fears in 60 years and is based on a 1924 timepiece in the Fears Heritage Collection.

It will be assembled in the UK in short runs using a Swiss manual-winding, time-only movement with a pure white enamel dial, made and hand polished in Britain.

The Fears Redcliff Date retails for £650, the Redcliff Continental (in all three dial colours) retails for £725 inc. VAT. The majority British made mechanical Fears Brunswick retails for £1,750 inc. VAT.

Commenting on these new releases, Mr Bowman-Scargill says: “The success of the first year since the re-establishment of my family’s company has been extremely encouraging. I’m delighted that people are appreciating the Fears values and our commitment to making elegant watches that are designed and built to be enjoyed for a lifetime.

“Building on this success, we’re pleased to expand the popular Redcliff family with a practical and useful complication for the modern-day traveller. This was also the right time to re-introduce a mechanical Fears watch, something that our customers have been requesting over the past year. I feel very proud to be running the company that was started by my great-great-great-grandfather Edwin Fear 171 years ago, and to see it flourishing once more.”
