Former Formula One racer and Rolex ambassador Sir Jackie Stewart was the guest of honour at an event hosted by retailer Laing Edinburgh at The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa on August 29.
More than 150 guests attended the one-off reception and Rolex exhibition, which showcased the new Basel 2013 Rolex models.
Commenting on the evening, former Formula One racing driver, from Scotland, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE said: “I’ve long been a fan of Rolex having worn one since my driving days."
Chairman of Laing Edinburgh, Michael Laing OBE added: “We’re honoured to welcome Sir Jackie Stewart to our Event, a Rolex ambassador since 1968 who famously purchased his first Rolex, a yellow-gold Day-Date, following his 1966 win at the Indianapolis 500. You will be amazed at the beauty and unique fine detailing in these models.”
As part of the Rolex exhibition, Laing Edinburgh unveiled a new platinum Cosmograph Daytona watch, priced at £50,100. The piece has been designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1963 emblematic Daytona and has an ice blue dial and chestnut brown monobloc ceramic cerachrom bezel.
The new GMT-Master II’s 24-hour bezel insert is half blue and half black, representing daytime hours and night-time hours. It echoes the traditional two-colour bezel of the original GMT-Master, which was created in 1955 to allow airline pilots to read the time in two different time zones simultaneously.
Rolex also revealed its classic Oyster Perpetual Day-Date collection with six new colourful versions with luxurious leather straps and matching details. First created in 1956, this new Day-Date design is available in a choice of 18ct yellow, white or rose gold. The classic Yachtmaster II has also been re-designed with a new blue bezel. This popular all-steel chronograph design combines technological innovation with sophisticated aesthetics.
