Poole-based watch brand Elliot Brown is the official timekeeper of the world’s longest ocean race, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

The watch brand, which launched in 2013, continues to grow in stature, having only recently added sports sponsorship to its marketing activities last month when it became timing partner of the Artemis Offshore Academy sailing series.

Elliot Brown’s reputation for producing tough, robust watches will be put to the ultimate nautical test when the 40,000 nautical mile, 11-month race begins at the end of August with skippers and crew all wearing the brand’s watches.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Clipper Race Chairman and Founder, said: “The Elliot Brown brand is a great fit as a partner for the Clipper Race with the extremely tough conditions the crew withstand during their journey just as their timepieces are extremely durable. We look forward to seeing them achieving great things through their sponsorship and all the opportunities available for the company as Official Timekeeper”.

Elliot Brown will mark its own involvement, and the race’s 10th edition, with a special edition Canford collection Clipper Race crew watch, limited to 1,000 pieces.

The watch has been built to withstand the demands of such a grueling race with a shock-protected movement, triple sealing system to keep out water and dust and real water resistance testing being carried out on every watch to 200m.

A premium black leather strap on deployment clasp and black canvas strap with red stitching will be presented with the watch along with two screwdrivers and a numbered, commemorative insert.

The caseback is engraved with Clipper Race detailing and individually numbered. The watch is available to pre-order now for £395 on Elliot Brown’s website.

Now the brand is currently looking for an onboard ambassador, a crew member who will wear the watch throughout the race and report back on the challenges presented by the race through blogs, photos and videos.

Ian Elliot, Elliot Brown co-founder, added: “We are delighted to be selected as Official Timekeeper for one of the biggest challenges of the natural world – the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Our watches hit back at harsh conditions and are well equipped for this endurance test like no other of its kind. Plus, they look great whether with a shirt or foul weather gear”.
