The British Hological Institute is holding a Summer Show next weekend with activities for the whole family.
The 2015 Summer Show will be held at Upton Hall, the BHI headquarters in Nottinghamshire, on 13-14 June between 10am and 4pm and features a display of rare clocks from Japan.
Ray Walford, chairman of the BHI board of directors, said: “It’s one of the few occasions in the year when Upton Hall is open to the public and people can visit our timeless collection. I’m also glad to say that there’ll be activities for young and old alike.”
Visitors will be able to witness a repair demonstration in the watch workshop, view the work of public clock maker Smith of Derby or browse some of the 1,000 artefacts held by the BHI such as the personal watch of Captain Scott of the Antarctic.
The one-off exhibition of pre-1868 Japanese timepieces, which come from a private collection, are all working examples from the Edo Period, when Japan cut itself off from the outside and Japanese horology developed separately from that in great Britain, Switzerland, France, Germany and the US.
Younger visitors haven’t been forgotten either with plenty of activities on offer including the ability to make a clock face, craft gifts or join a teddy bear hunt.
Visitors to the Summer Show can also buy books, clocks and watches, including vintage pieces such as an English long case or an American pocket watch, and win a valuable brand-new designer timepiece in the Grand Raffle.
