de Grisogono founder Fawaz Gruosi has revealed a very personal labour of love, the chic New Retro.
Gruosi equates the stylish timepiece to wearing a bespoke outfit, saying: “This collection is entirely rooted in the idea that the whole concept of wearing a watch is similar to wearing a chic and timeless bespoke outfit.
“This also explains why it took me so long to achieve perfection in the shape, style and proportions of this watch. A piece that subtly combines vintage delights with modern touches. The New Retro encapsulates values relating both to vision and tradition. I wanted the New Retro to be unforgettable, for it to exude a feeling of elegance and the wealth of the past, as well as expressing a taste for things that are beautiful in their own right, things that are never lacking in style.”
The high jewellery and watch brand present five models of the New Retro collection with four examples in either white or rose gold cases and one model in black PVD-treated stainless steel.
The two-hand, 50mm wide watch is time-only with two cutouts either side of the dial and identical rounded sapphire crystals front and back giving the impression that both the dial and movement are suspended in a transparent frame.
Inside, the self-winding Calibre DG 10-01 boasts a gold rotor with new ‘blackened’ appearance and decorated with a openwork scrolling pattern. The watches feature a 42-hour power reserve and are water resistant to 3ATM. The New Retro models are secured on black alligator straps with triple folding clasps of matching metal.
