Dates announced for Baselworld 2016 show

Book your hotel rooms now, the 2016 dates for Baselworld have been announced as 17-24 March.

Organisers have hailed the success of this year’s exhibition, which closed yesterday, despite a dip of 3% to the number of registered buyers attending.

The event saw 1,500 brands unveil and showcase their innovations and creations to a total of 150,000 attendees.

"Baselworld is universally acknowledged as the premier event for the global watch and jewellery industry. What makes it exceptional is that Baselworld is the only show that fully reflects the excellence of the industry by uniting everyone from the smallest to the largest brands representing every sector; and it offers each of these a prestigious platform to present themselves in the best light," said Baselworld president François Thiébaud

Press attendance increased by 7.5% to 4300 members from over 70 countries.

WatchPro and Professional Jeweller were the only UK business publications distributing thousands of copies from the official media centre. Daniel Malins, WatchPro’s commercial manager, said: “WatchPro’s reputation, both domestically and globally, continues to grow within the watch industry year-on-year. The title has grown into an authoritative source for all aspects of the trade, as witnessed at this year’s Basel by our presence within the official Media Centre and comment on international television, print and radio from our editorial team in the weeks surrounding the show.”

Major brands agreed that there was this year’s show was among the most successful in recent years.

Thierry Stern, president of Patek Philippe, said: "This year’s show was an excellent edition that was really successful in terms of numbers and the interest in our products from retailers and the press."

Jean-Claude Biver, LVMH Group president, agreed. "The results are excellent and we are above all our expectations," he stated.
