Christina Ricci steps out wearing Timex dress

American actress Christina Ricci has become the first person to wear a dress embellished with Timex watch parts and dials, appearing on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards last week wearing the Christian Siriano creation.

The dress was created by Ricci and her stylist Brad Goreski in a collaboration with Siriano.

The black dress is said to have been inspired by Timex’s range of fashion-led collections and was made using parts from more than 1,500 Timex watches. The dress was created to embody Ricci’s “elegant, yet edgy, style”.

Siriano said: “As a designer, I’m always looking for new materials that I can use in unexpected ways. Using Timex watches in my design has been invigorating.

”I am thrilled to have partnered with such an iconic brand – I never thought I would be designing a dress for Christina Ricci made of working Timex watches – it’s genuinely a red carpet moment in time.”

The mini dress is made in silk taffeta and has working Timex watches embellishing it, as well Swarovski crystals buttons that were hand-picked by Ricci. Its cut was based on a dress that features in a painting by John Singer Sargent called Portrait of Madame X.

Ricci said of the creation: “This dress is perfect because it is truly timeless, yet gives a nod to the structured dresses of the 90s. I love that it is made of stylish Timex watches.”

She wore the dress to the awards with a gold Timex wristwatch.

Adam Gurian, president of Timex said: “We’re accustomed to men and women wearing the watches on their wrist as a must-have fashion statement.

”We feel honoured to have such a creative collaboration using our watches in such a visionary way – Christian Siriano’s Timex Watch Dress is truly an ingenious work of art that is a timeless icon.”
