Charity-minded Beaverbrooks chairman Mark Adlestone was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
The award recognizes Adlestone’s services to business and charity, and the combination of the two as witnessed by his ‘philanthropic values to business’. Adlestone also encourages the 900-strong Beaverbrooks workforce to get involved with their own charity projects saying, “Working together, we can achieve so much more”.
Commenting on the honour, Adlestone said: “I have long felt that the world of business should work hand in hand with the worlds of philanthropy, values, ethics and community. As a business, we embrace this philosophy and I am thrilled that this honour celebrates this fact.
“We feel we have become an example of corporate philanthropy to much larger organisations and we are extremely proud to lead by example through our purpose of Enriching Lives.”
The honour comes after Adlestone took The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2015 special award for Best Leader for the fourth time.
Beaverbrooks donates 20 per cent of post-tax profits to charity via The Beaverbrooks Charitable Trust and the business also empowers its people with its time-giving initiative and by matching any funds raised by teams for their own charities. Beaverbrooks has donated in excess of £9million to charities since the year 2000.
Adlestone devotes one day a week to his charity and communal work which includes his role as Chairman of The Fed: the leading social and welfare organisation within the Jewish community of Greater Manchester.
