Bulova’s Hack watch is worn by actor Channing Tatum in the latest Hollywood blockbuster by director Roland Emmerich.
In the film, called White House Down, which is due for UK release on September 6, and stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tatum – who plays a policeman – wears a Bulova Hack watch.
The Bulova Hack watch worn by Tatum is a modern day homage to the original Hack watches, which were worn by the US army in WWII in order to accurately synchronise military missions. For the purpose of precision timing among troops, the original Hack watch had a lock-down feature stopping the second hand entirely, allowing soldiers to synchronise watches to the second. The term "hack" means stopping in order to synchronise.
The Bulova Hack watch worn by Tatum juxtaposes the original model’s underlying ethos, which is to combine military efficiency with a wearable, easy-to-read timepiece with a Nato strap. It houses a quartz movement in a 40mm stainless steel case, black analogue dial with luminescent hands and is water resistant to 30 metres. It has an RRP of £95.
